About The Kitchen

Founded in 1971, The Kitchen is one of New York City’s oldest nonprofit spaces, showing innovative work by emerging and established artists across disciplines. Our programs range from art, dance, film, and music to performance, theater, and video, in addition to artists’ talks, lecture series, and literary events. Since its inception, The Kitchen has been a powerful force in shaping the cultural landscape of this country, and has helped launch the careers of many artists who have defined the American avant-garde. To learn more about our institution and past programming, visit our general website, thekitchen.org.

About The Kitchen OnScreen

Launched in July 2020, The Kitchen OnScreen is a new platform that hosts the online programs we initiated following the closure of our physical space in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bringing together these recently launched program series with new artist projects created for online viewing and content previously housed on The Kitchen’s blog, The Kitchen OnScreen makes it possible to access a wide range of content and ideas on one site.

The Kitchen OnScreen was initiated with funds from the NYSCA Electronic Media/Film in Partnership with Wave Farm: Media Arts Assistance Fund, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
